During CJ’s tenure as a Capitol police officer, he got to meet and know some of the lawmakers working there.
Senator David Durenberger – Once CJ was walking past the senator’s office, and he heard a loud voice say, It is only a test. Later when he had a chance to speak with Senator Durenberger, he told him that he had heard the voice of God Almighty when passing by his office. The senator knew what was meant, and appreciated it. At a later date, Senator Durenberger became the one who introduced CJ to President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda. And some time later, CJ received a visions of building a Christian Arts Institute in Uganda.
Senator Edward M. (Ted) Kennedy – While serving on the Capitol police force, CJ got to meet the senator, and their acquaintance blossomed into a friendship. One time, Senator Kennedy heard a hymn at Church that touched him, and he shared it with CJ. CJ joked that being an Episcopalian, he did not acknowledge Baptist hymns. Both enjoyed the hymn and even sang it together at times. One time, Senator Kennedy was leaving the Senate floor with his head and spirit down, and members of the press trailing behind. As he was walking, the senator found CJ walking beside him, and CJ whispered the opening verse of ‘their’ hymn, and it immediately brightened the senator’s countenance. This was noticed by the trail of press personnel, and they asked CJ in vain about what changed the senator’s demeanor.
Senator Orrin Grant Hatch – Another pleasant acquaintance that CJ enjoyed during his time as a Capitol policeman was with Senator Hatch. One time CJ was planning a trip to Africa, and the senator knew about it. One of the senator’s staffers informed CJ that the senator had a thousand dollars to contribute towards CJ’s trip. Later, CJ happened to see the senator heading to the senate floor with members of his staff. The senator noticed CJ, held up two fingers, and kept on going. None present but CJ and the senator knew that the senator had just upped his contribution to two thousand.
